Topsham is an old town, and most of the pubs have been around for over 200 years. As a result, they have interesting layouts and features, are pretty and individual buildings and have a large number of stories to go with them. It does mean, on occasion, that the premises need to be modernised, and not always with the most desirable result.

In past times, there have been many more pubs in Topsham than the ten on the crawl. The St George and Dragon – a fine ale pub in its own right – is still around, but is just a little too far out of the way to be practical to visit, but most others have been consigned to history as times have changed:

Some buildings have disappeared without a trace, the rest are private residences or shops.
